Some Southlake parents notice it at a playdate, when other kids are chatting and theirs is quiet. Some notice it at the dinner table, when a short list of "safe" foods keeps getting shorter. If something has you wondering, that's reason enough to ask.

Your first visit is a one-hour assessment with a speech-language pathologist, who plays with your child, listens, and asks what you're seeing at home. Then you'll get a plan with goals you can picture: ordering at a restaurant, telling a teacher they need help, enjoying a family meal.
Jessica Roberts-Grant, M.S., CCC-SLP, our assistant clinical director of speech-language pathology, guides the speech team, drawing on more than 15 years with young children, including AAC and autism. We support late talking, speech sounds, understanding language, social communication, AAC, and feeding. See how we approach speech and feeding therapy.
Your speech therapist plays with your child, listens to how they communicate, and asks what you're seeing at home.
Goals tied to real moments: asking for a snack, being understood at preschool, mealtimes that feel calmer.
Play-based sessions, and one or two things to practice at home each week, so progress keeps going between visits.

At our Southlake center, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and ABA therapy share one building and one plan. If your child needs more than one kind of support, their therapists coordinate goals, and you keep one schedule instead of three.
First words, being understood, picture and device communication, and mealtimes that feel calmer.
Fine motor, sensory, and self-care skills, from getting dressed to holding a crayon.
Play-based, child-led support for communication, social, and daily-living skills.
The bigger picture
Some Southlake kids who come to us for speech are also showing differences in play, social connection, or flexibility with routines. That can be a sign of autism, or it can be something else, and it helps to have people who can tell the difference.
ABA therapy
If an autism diagnosis is part of your child's story, ABA therapy happens in the same building, with a team that already knows your child. It's play-based, led by your child's strengths, and built around your family's goals.
Learn about ABA therapy at this center →If your child already gets speech through ECI or Carroll ISD, you might wonder whether private therapy is worth it. Here's what it adds:
That's when many families add private therapy. Texas Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) ends at 3, and not every child qualifies for school services. Private speech therapy keeps progress going, and we'll coordinate with your child's school team.
Most families use insurance, and we check your benefits before your first visit.

A late talker says fewer words than expected but understands well and is on track otherwise. A language delay can affect understanding too. A speech-language pathologist can usually tell which in a single one-hour assessment.
Yes. Our speech-language pathologists provide feeding therapy for children who struggle with textures, chewing, swallowing, or trying new foods.
Yes, and you can add private therapy alongside it. We're glad to coordinate with your ECI team, and when ECI ends at 3, private therapy keeps your child's progress going.
Many plans do. In Texas we accept Aetna, BCBS of Texas, TRICARE, UnitedHealthcare, and United Behavioral Health. Our intake team checks your plan before your first visit.
